Afropunk returns to roots in London
MIA, Benjamin Booker, Cakes Da Killa and Ho99o9 are just some of the acts playing at Afropunk event Power To The Party in London in September.
The event at Alexandra Palace on September 24 comes off the back of Afropunk events in Brooklyn, Atlanta and Paris and mixes homegrown and global talent from the worlds of music, art, culture, food and style.
It’s a homecoming event for east London-born Afropunk founder Matthew Morgan and organisers say it will have “a distinct UK edge” and that attendees are encouraged to “jump in and become a part of the Afropunk community”.
Gaika, Youthman, Soulection and the not-to-be-missed female-fronted metal outfit Vodun are more of the names on the line-up, as well as Word Sound Power, a collaborative project between Akala, Dreadzone and Don Letts, with more names to be announced.
