[FEATURE] Soundtrack Of My Life: Josh McClorey (The Strypes)

First record I ever bought…  The Beatles – White Album

“I bought it with my communion money when I was 8. I’ve always loved this record and I knew most of the tracks before I’d bought it – still have it somewhere in the house!”

The song that inspired me to be a musician… ACDC – Can I Sit Next To You Girl

“It’s just one of the first tunes I remember loving. My dad is a big 70s rock fan so I would’ve grown up with ACDC, early Aerosmith etc. The guitar playing on that record and Bon Scott’s vocal instantly made we wanna be a musician”

The song that makes me sad… Lindisfarne – Winter Song

“I only heard this tune a couple of years ago through my manager. It’s completely heartbreaking, the lyrics are incredible and the guitar playing is insane!”

First song I remember hearing… Lou Bega – Mambo No.5

“I used to spend loads of time with my granny and aunties when I was really young, and this was a big hit in their houses. Still gives me a giggle!”

The song I want played at my funeral… Fairport Convention – Who Knows Where The Time Goes

“This is a tough one as I’m still thinking about it (morbid enough). It was played at a relative’s funeral and it hit home pretty hard! The other one I’ve always considered is The Last Shadow Puppets- The Time Has Come Again as it ends my favourite record of all time (Age Of The Understatement)”

The song that reminds me of home… The Pogues – Sally MacLennane

“It’s not a tune I listen to regularly but whenever I hear it I think of Cavan, mainly because my dad played it loads for me when I was a kid. Apparently when I was 6 I knew all the lyrics!”

The song I do at karaoke… The Rolling Stones – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction

“If I get to the stage where I’m in anyway willing to do karaoke it’d have to be this. I love to get my Mick on. We all do, come on”

The song I can’t stand listening to… Terence Trent D’Arby – Wishing Well

“My mum loves this tune, so it’s forever engrained in my head. Utter shite”

The song that best sums up The Strypes… The Strypes – What A Shame

“I just think lyrically and musically it sums us up. The two voices is quite unique to us and everything else is just four to the floor/90mph”

The song that makes me want to dance… Vic Mensa – Down On My Luck

“Met this guy earlier this year in Chicago. He’s one of the most talented rappers I’ve ever seen/heard and I can’t wait for him to blow up. This song instantly makes me wanna dance, and me and my mates have made it a standard playlist tune”

The song I wish I’d written… Arctic Monkeys – The Bakery

“I remember hearing this for the first time and thinking “fucker! he’s written something that good, and it’s a fucking B-Side”. It just knocked me back completely. I love the lyrics and the twist at the end; it’s definitely one of Turner’s best tunes, and one of my all-time favourites”
